David Werneke received a Lilly-Lovelace award for his service to the Museum, Biological Sciences, COSAM, and the University. David has been the Staff Curator of the Fish Collection for 21 years, and he has seen all of the dramatic changes at the Museum over those years including moving the collection across campus. David has been instrumental in getting the collections digitized and made available on the internet, which makes sure that all the collections at Auburn are utilized all over the world. Recently, David has been inundated with orphaned collections that resulted in over 10,000 jars being added to the fish collection in one year alone!
David has additionally been active in the field including many expeditions to South America, the most recent of which was Peru in 2022. He maintains his own research program including work on the lower Appalachicola River. We at the Museum appreciate all of the hard work that David has put into the Museum, and he is instrumental in our success! Congratulations, David!
