Entomology

The entomology collection at the AUMNH was historically the Auburn University Entomology Museum (AUEM).  Our collection of roughly half a million pinned specimens has its strengths in: Chrysomelidae, Formicidae, Megachilidae, Orthoptera, Simuliidae, and Siphonaptera of Alabama. Our arachnid and myriapod collection is composed of roughly 15,000 ethanol preserved specimens and 10,000 slide-mounted specimens. Strengths include ticks of Alabama, Diplopoda and Araneae of the Southeastern United States. The geographic scope of our holdings extend beyond the Southeastern United States and reflects research interests of previous and current curators and affiliated persons.

We are currently in the process of digitizing our specimens and you can search our Entomology catalog here and our Arachnid and Myriapod catalog here. To request a loan or for more information, please contact us.

VOLUNTEERS

The research staff sponsors students in a wide variety of roles from graduate students, to undergraduate students seeking research experience, to volunteers to contribute to various aspects of collection maintenance. We encourage all those interested in learning how to curate a significant museum collection to contact the Collections Manager. The experience gained in collections maintenance will help students prepare for jobs and graduate school.
